NYC Corkage Policies

Updated April 10, 2006

This initial post is a list of all of the current corkage policies in NYC that I'm aware of- this list will grow over time and the blog will be updated with reports regarding treatment at particular restaurants and thoughts on how customers and restaurants can make the most of the corkage experience.   You should always confirm  corkage policies when making a reservation, as they often change.  All of the prices below are per bottle and have been confirmed with the restaurant.
Some notes on what the terms mean:

Decent Glasses- medium sized bowls
Good service-  no one in the restaurant blinks when you pull your wine our of the bag, whisking it away and asking when/how you would like it served.
Great Service- all of the above, plus decanting advice and numbered glasses
Good glasses-  Good sized bowls
Great glasses- Riedels or Spiegelau, with different glasses offered for different types of wine
Lousy glasses- small glasses

Went to Sripaphai (sp?) in Queens for the first time last night - they now have a liquor license but still allow BYO at $10 per bottle, gave us a ice bucket which was nice, glasses are standard/low end restaurant variety

Are you sure about Fairway? They were a BYO favorite for a while before they got their license, then dropped it all together. Maybe thye had to bring BYO back as it is still a grocery store cafe (though a good one)

Michael-
Yes- One of the contributors to the BYO list went to Fairway within the month and reported on the corkage policy.
Cheers,
Charles

Good to hear about Fairway, it is my local market, I used to crack a bottle there every so often
Le Tableau is no corkage on Tuesdays, Good stems, good attitude on Tuesday, they are $15 the rest of the week but attitude varies (same stems).

Le Zie 2000 on 7th 19th/20th is $15 good glasses, good attitude.

La Grolla on Amsterdam and 79th is also $15, good attitude, okay stems.

Actually some of the non-BYO places can be persuaded to allow BYO. I've BYOed at Bouley. Friends have done the same at BLT Steak. And we are going to Hearth on Feb. 9th for the first time.

Himalyan Yak is on your list for Queens. They just received a licence, not sure if it's BYO. I live around the corner so I'll pop in some time and ask.
